LYRICS

I’m hard up all the time / It’s hard to stay present / So easy to give up / Click bait, no. Click lifetime.

I could ride this lifetime / I could do just all right but / with this piece of paper / I could burn it all down.

You’re not ordinary / You’re doing just fine / But with this piece of paper, you could burn it all down.

We live in pretty / We live in “getting there” / With a piece of paper we could burn it all down.

I should have given it just some attention / I should have given a moment of inspection / As I laid my head down for the night

What about water? What about our freedoms? What about our future? What about our planet?

We could burn it all down.

 SUMMARY

This song is ultimately an observation of modern life and humanity’s consumption/infatuation with itself/social media/digital egotism. As such, we tend to ignore the decay of everything around us and are not present enough to give the attention needed to the detriment of our own survival. Burning it all down is a metaphor to disengaging with “clickbait” distractions and focusing on the stuff outside ourselves that’s important. However, it could be interpreted that by continuing the way we are, we are certainly “burning it all down” from a climate perspective.
